Marlex D139 mLLDPE pellets - Films Expert

    2024-12-05

    1. Introduction of Marlex D139 mLLDPE pellets

Marlex D139 series is a type of Metallocene-catalyzed linear low-density polyethylene pellets (mLLDPE) specially used for the production of films. The finished products have the characteristics of high toughness, impact resistance, smooth surface and high transparency. They are high-quality raw materials for PE films.
As an excellent film material, Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., Ltd not only provides ordinary D139 mlldpe based on market demand and technological innovation, but also designs improved D139 mlldpe based on different application scenarios.
Luoyang Baiyou  - A professional polyethylene supplier with 20+ years experience, will introduce to you the differences of series of Marlex D139 mlldpe pellets

    2. Marlex D139 mLLDPE series differences

2.1 Marlex D139 - Classical Highly transparent packaging PE film

Marlex D139 is a classic early-generation mLLDPE material that delivers excellent performance in terms of high transparency, heat-sealability, and impact resistance. It is particularly well-suited for heavy-duty packaging, transparent packaging, co-extruded films, impact-resistant films, and frozen food packaging applications.

    Material Characteristics:
    • High transparency, clarity and smooth feel. Among the D139 mlldpe series, the basic model D139 has the highest gloss, reaching 130, and the haze is only 4%, so it is very suitable for applications that require high product appearance.
    • Low heat sealing temperature. Compared to the butene-based LLDPE commonly used in the past, Marlex D139 has a seal initiation temperature of only 102°C, requiring lower temperatures in heat-sealing equipment.
    • Food contact grade. As a polyethylene material used for food packaging, Marlex D130 mLLDPE has obtained food contact material certifications in multiple countries, including but not limited to FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, EU No. 10/2011, GB 4806.7-2023, KS24100402, and others. The material offers excellent safety performance and is suitable for food packaging applications.
    • High toughness and impact resistance, Marlex D139 mLLDPE features a uniform monomer distribution, giving the material superior impact strength, tear resistance, and low-temperature performance. With a Dart value of 540 g/mil under the ASTM D1709 test standard, it is particularly well-suited for heavy-duty packaging boxes used in frozen food applications.

    2.2 Marlex D139N - No additives mLLDPE

Marlex D139N contains no additives or processing aids. This material exhibits minimal chemical leaching, with a haze of only 4%, a gloss of 130 under 60° testing conditions, and a seal initiation temperature of 120°C. It is particularly suitable for high-transparency films and heat-seal layers in food packaging.

    2.3 Marlex D139FJ - Balanced mLLDPE

Marlex D139FJ is a commonly used mLLDPE material that offers a well-balanced combination of processing properties, mechanical properties, and visual characteristics.
    Material Characteristics:
    • Excellent craftsmanship and texture. Marlex D139FJ mLLDPE contains 1,000 ppm of slip agents and 2,500 ppm of antiblock agents, which not only facilitate high-speed film production and prevent film sticking during production and storage, but also effectively enhance the film’s smoothness. However, the use of these two additives results in a slight deterioration in the material’s appearance, with haze increasing to 7% and gloss decreasing to 110.
    • Moderate mechanical properties. Although the mechanical properties of Marlex D139FJ are somewhat reduced due to the addition of slip and antiblock agents, it still meets the requirements of most applications. The tensile strength at break in the flow direction is 49 MPa, and 59 MPa in the cross-flow direction; the tensile elongation at break at flow direction is 560%.

2.4 Marlex D139FK - Extremely thin PE films

Marlex D139FK is an improved mLLDPE pellet, The main improvement is enhanced anti-stick performance.
    Material Characteristics:
    • Better anti-stick performance. Marlex D139FK mLLDPE contains 5,000 ppm of antiblock agent, resulting in film that is less prone to sticking. Compared to standard Marlex D139, it is better suited for high-speed blown film equipment, film rolls intended for winding, and high-temperature, high-humidity environments, while also offering improved processing and storage properties.
    • Appearance is not very appealing. Due to the higher content of additives, the gloss of Marlex D139FK mLLDPE under the 60° test standard is only 103, which is lower than the 130 of Marlex D139; its haze reaches 9%, which is higher than the 4% of Marlex D139. Therefore, it is not suitable for applications with high aesthetic requirements.

    2.5 Marlex D139DK - High anti-adhesion, low leaching

Marlex D139DK contains no slip agents but includes 5,000 ppm of antiblock agents and processing aids. It offers strong anti-blocking properties and low leaching, making it suitable for applications sensitive to migrating substances. However, its range of applications is limited, and it is not commonly used.

    3. In conclusion

According to different application scenarios, Luoyang Baiyou recommends that you choose the following
    • If you have high requirements on product appearance and tensile properties, it is recommended to choose the basic type D139 mlldpe. This mlldpe resin pellet has a more transparent, clearer and smoother feel.
    • For applications that require strict avoidance of additives and demand high-gloss film, we recommend using Marlex D139N.
    • If you require balanced material properties while also seeking to improve the film’s lubricity for use in high-speed film blowing equipment, we recommend Marlex D139FJ.
    • If the film blowing equipment operates at high speeds, the product is produced in rolls, and there are no strict requirements for appearance, we recommend using Marlex D139FK, as this material offers superior anti-blocking properties.
