Polystyrene (PS)
is a thermoplastic polymer synthesized from styrene monomer through free radical addition polymerization. It is a colorless and transparent plastic with a glass transition temperature higher than 100°C, commonly used to make disposable containers that can withstand the temperature of boiling water and foam lunch boxes. Polystyrene is widely used in optical instruments, chemical industry, and daily necessities, such as tea trays, sugar bowls, soap boxes, cigarette cases, student rulers, and combs. Due to its certain air permeability, it can also be used as an excellent food packaging material when made into films. Polystyrene (PS) includes general-purpose polystyrene, expanded polystyrene (EPS), high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), and syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS).
